SPH hosted a weeklong summer program focused on occupational hygiene to expose undergraduates from diverse backgrounds to a highly rewarding field in which “many of our students get hired before they’re even finished, and step right into a well-paying job,” says Professor Susan Arnold.

SPH Celebrates First Class of Public Health BA Graduates
On May 19, the SPH commencement celebration included its first-ever cohort of undergraduates. Students graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Health, a degree program launched in 2022 in order to help bolster the nation’s public health workforce.

CIDRAP Launches Vaccine Integrity Project
The University of Minnesota’s Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP), led by Professor Michael Osterholm, started an initiative to safeguard vaccine use in the U.S. The Vaccine Integrity Project will engage experts to help protect vaccine policy, information, and use across the U.S.
Career Pathway Program for Disease Intervention Specialists
SPH received a grant from the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) to identify and develop educational pathways for undergraduate students to become certified as disease intervention professionals. These professionals will play a vital role in helping to limit the spread of many communicable diseases, including sexually transmitted diseases, measles, Mpox, and Covid-19.

New Public Health Preparedness and Response Center Launches
The Upper Midwest (Health & Human Services Region 5) Center for Public Health Preparedness and Response will focus on strengthening locally adaptable responses to public health emergencies. Early efforts center on coalition building, leveraging trusted relationships between school nurses and public health agencies, and developing strategies to show the impact of preparedness efforts.
SPH Launches new Prevention Research Center
Last fall SPH received a grant to house a CDC Prevention Research Center focused on improving health and well-being for families at risk for weight-related health problems. The center will seek to reach its goals through research development and dissemination, training, and community collaborations.
